Catherine Mitchell is a Research Scientist in optical oceanography. Her work links ocean colour to biological, biogeochemical and physical processes in marine ecosystems.
Catherine’s research uses satellite images, underwater autonomous vehicles, and ship-based voyages to gain insights into marine environments. She has developed computational techniques connecting remotely sensed ocean colour measurements to in situ data.
Her passion for problem solving, communication and learning means she is involved in numerous outreach and education projects, such as co-founding the Midcoast Girls Who Code Club in 2017.
